In 1833, the Royal William, built in 1831 in Cape Blanc, Quebec, was the first ocean-going steamship to cross the Atlantic from Pictou, Nova Scotia to Gravesend, England.


Scottish Settlers & Hector

In 1773, 200 Scottish settlers arrived in Pictou on the ship Hector.
Today, the Hector Heritage Quay in Pictou marks the journey.

Dr. Rev. Moses M. Coady (1882-1959) was the founder of the Antigonish Movement which promoted co-operative development and continuing learning in rural communities.
